The bicycle is the ideal means of transport for exploring the 'Wijers'. Thanks to the Limburg cycling route network that is signposted, you cycle along, on and even through, the water. Plan your route using the junctions on www.toerismelimburg.be

 

Bike hire

At various locations in the ‘Wijers’, you will find the green Fietsparadijs Limburg bicycles. Choose a comfortable trekking bike, an electric bike, a tandem or a children's bike for the little ones. There are also several other Limburg bike rental companies at your disposal that offer a diverse selection.

Special cycling routes

 

Cycling through the water

Find yourself face to face with swans and other water birds exploring the surface of the ponds. In Bokrijk, you literally cycle through the water for 212 meters! Aunique experience. You can find Cycling through the water between cycling junctions 91 and 98 of the Limburg cycling route network.

If you prefer not to work out the cycling junctions yourself, we have indicated the most beautiful trails on the Wijers cycling map for you. Five cycling routes of 28 to 48km will guide you through the land of 1001 ponds.

Geological cycling routes

See the area in a new light. Follow the two geological cycle routes that introduce you to the specific ‘Wijers' subsoil and the connection with the landscape, fauna and flora. 

 

 

Castle cycling route

Admire the castles and historic places in Heusden-Zolder by bike. The loop is about 29 km long. The route is signposted with hexagonal signs.

Snacking and cycling through the land of 1001 ponds

Cycling and good food? This is possible with a 'Happen en Trappen' arrangement. Bicycle loops show you the most beautiful places in De Wijers. Along the way you will stop in several restaurants, where you will be served 5 courses. Which route do you choose? www.happenentrappen.be

  

 

Hasselt bike route

Discover the green belt around the Capital of Taste by bike. Try the taste of the Hasselt suburbs enroute, and don't forget to stop occasionally to marvel at the breath-taking historical splendour and special scenery. What’s more, you get discount vouchers to take with you!

Biking in Houthalen-Helchteren

Various loops, on and next to the existing bicycle route network, take you to the most beautiful, often hidden places in Houthalen-Helchteren. Cycle right through the Hengelhoef and Molenheide holiday parks, get acquainted with the unique past of Meulenberg or be surprised by the beautiful greenery and the silence of nature. Poplar route

Start at the historic town square of Lummen and discover a lot of heritage gems nestled in the landscape. Of course, you will also pass the' Schulensmeer', the largest inland ake in Flanders.

Cycling on Zolder RaceTrack

The Zolder Race Track is not just for fast cars, you can also cycle there! Every Tuesday, Wednesdayand Thursday evening, the track is open to racing bikes, mountain and citybikes. On Monday evenings, rollerblades and cyclists with a disability are welcome. On Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, the BMX Dirt Track is open to everyone.
